IOT Systems, LLC was born from the exceptional talent that made COMSAT the powerhouse in satellite communications beginning in the early 1960s.

The Communications Satellite Corporation (COMSAT), was established in 1962 in order to administer satellite communications to the United States. Its responsibilities included developing a global satellite communications system, aquiring, and maintaining ground stations around the world, and designing and testing new satellite technologies.

To further COMSAT's mission, its research and development unit COMSAT Laboratories was established in 1967. The Labs created numerous breakthrough technical developments in coding and transmission of satellite and wireless communications, networking and multiple access, space-qualified electronics and power sources, and antennas. Modeled after the famous Bell Laboratories, COMSAT Labs set a standard for leading-edge research and development and holding more than 300 US patents on inventions.
